Bibray Tiptoes Around Illegal Immigrant Rental Issue

A recent letter to Congressman Bilbray asked:

"The Escondido City Council has proposed a measure that would fine landlords for renting to illegal immigrants. (Newspaper articles about the measure are attached)

Do you support the proposed Waldron measure?

Some claim that the Waldron measure would violate existing state and Federal laws, such as fair housing laws.

Would you support or sponsor Federal legislation that would allow local measures, such as the proposed Waldron measure, without running afoul of any Federal or state laws?

Some have claimed that this is solely a Federal matter.

Would you support or sponsor Federal legislation making it illegal to rent to illegal immigrants?"

The congressman's response tiptoed around the issue. See

PPH Revenue Bonds

PPH is planning on raising $150 million this fall using revenue bonds.

Some issues have arisen with the bond offering. Apparently, previous revenue bonds issued in 1993 and 1999 "may prevent PPH from issuing both Revenue and GO bonds if certain financial targets are not met."
